Alexandria, VA Health Care Overview
Good medicine is available to all residents throughout the area.
What the health? Alexandria residents are lucky to have access to two hospitals and a major children’s health-care organization. Here is some quick background:
Inova Alexandria Hospital
Part of the Inova Health System and the fourth top employer in the city is Inova Alexandria Hospital, a 318-bed community medical center that offers a full range of healthcare services and has received national recognition for healthcare excellence. Services include top treatment for cancer, diabetes, endocrinology, gastroenterology, orthopedics, neurology and neurosurgery, and the hospital operates a stroke center that is certified by the American Stroke Association.
Inova Mount Vernon Hospital
Also part of the same system is Inova Mount Vernon Hospital, a 237-bed facility that is high performing in orthopedics, and its Joint Replacement Center and Inova Rehabilitation Center are nationally recognized. In fact, the Joint Replacement Center is a recipient of the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for outstanding care in joint replacement procedures. Inova Mount Vernon houses the Inova Wound Healing Center that offers the only 24/7 hyperbaric treatment center in the Washington, D.C. region. In addition, the hospital opened a new Veatch Family Emergency Department in late 2016.
Headquartered in Alexandria is the National Association of Children's Hospitals and Related Institutions, an organization that oversees more than 190 hospitals in the United States as well as Australia, Canada and some European countries. The association works to ensure the health of all children through clinical care, research, training and advocacy, and it helps member hospitals identify and address market, finance and regulatory challenges.
