Charlottesville covers some impressive shopping ground, from the college-kid-dominated Corner to the historic Downtown Mall streets. Here are a few must-sees in the Charlottesville shopping scene.

Downtown Mall

The newly renovated shopping paradise known as the Downtown Mall offers shoppers an eclectic group of local stores with a little outdoor atmosphere. Book lovers will fall equally in love with Daedalus Bookshop, a three-story store packed floor to ceiling with second-hand books – look hard enough and you may be lucky enough to find some antiques and out-of-print gems. If decorating is your style, don't miss Vivian's Art for Living, which sells mostly locally made glass, wood and pottery products, along with jewelry and metal works. Can't find the one-of-a-kind item you're looking for? Try Quilts Unlimited. Along with new and antique quilts, the store sells eclectic clothing, pottery, hand bags and more. If you're carting the kids around, they'll love a stop in Alakazam Toys & Gifts.

Fashion Square

In the mood for a mall? Fashion Square will satisfy. Anchored by Belk, JCPenney and Sears, Fashion Square certainly lives up to its name. Other stores include Gap, J. Crew, Nine West and Brookstone.

The Corner

Amidst the many little restaurants and parade of students that dot the trendy Corner lie a few choice shops sure to appeal to the young-adult crowd. The walkable strip is best known for its bevy of lunch spots and cafes, including the ever-popular White Spot and The Corner Cup, but a stroll through the city's hippest corner will satisfy more than hunger pangs; shoppers, too, will leave satisfied.

Barracks Road Shopping Center

Mixing high-end stores with mid-level retailers makes the Barracks Road Shopping Center a must in the Charlottesville shopping scene. The outdoor strip makes it easy for visitors to pick and choose the stores that suit their fancy. They can stay on top of the trends at Anthropologie and Francesca's Collections, or explore their adventurous side with a little help from Blue Ridge Mountain Sports. Multiple restaurants and a variety of smaller gift and accessory stores make the center a full-service shopping spot.
