Richmond's universities and community colleges prepare students to enter the area's thriving workforce.

University of Richmond
The University of Richmond is a private liberal arts university located near downtown Richmond on a 350-acre campus. Students can select from more than 60 undergraduate majors and enjoy small class sizes. The university includes the School of Arts and Sciences, Robins School of Business, Jepson School of Leadership Studies, University of Richmond School of Law, and the School of Professional and Continuing Studies.

Virginia Commonwealth University
With two campuses in Richmond, Virginia Commonwealth University is one of the top research universities in the United States. The university enrolls more than 31,000 students and offers 63 undergraduate programs, 74 master's programs and 38 doctoral programs. In addition, health sciences students have access to VCU Medical Center, which is located on the school's MCV Campus and is the only academic medical center in central Virginia.

Virginia Union University
Founded in 1865, Virginia Union University was established to give freed slaves an opportunity for higher education. Today, the school includes the Sydney Lewis School of Business; the Evelyn R. Syphax School of Education, Psychology and Interdisciplinary Studies; the School of Humanities & Social Sciences; and the School of Mathematics, Science & Technology.

J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College
J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College, the newest community college in Virginia, features three major campuses and five off-campus sites. The college has 24 two-year occupational/technical degree programs, nine occupational/technical certificate programs, and five two-year college transfer programs. JSRCC also provides 43 career studies certificate programs that require less than one year of full-time study to complete.

Fortis College Richmond
Fortis College Richmond offers programs in nursing, massage therapy, pharmacy technology, surgical technology and other related fields.
