Spokane, WA Higher Education Overview
Gonzaga University, a private liberal arts university that practices humanistic, catholic and Jesuit learning philosophies. The university works to better the community and world through education and has been doing so for 125 years. The school offers 43 majors and 26 master’s degrees ranging from biochemistry to Latin American Studies. There is approximately one faculty member for every 12 students, and the total student body is roughly 2,000.
Whitworth University is a private college affiliated with the Presbyterian Church that has been educating students since 1890. Nearly 3,000 students make up the student body, and the faculty to student ratio is about 1 to 11. Whitworth was named Best in the West of 2012 by the Princeton Review.
Community colleges in Spokane include Spokane Falls Community College, Spokane Community College and the Institute for Extended Learning. All together, these schools instruct about 38,000 students a year.
