Spokane Public Schools district educates most of the city's young learners and is the second-largest district in the state. Spokane schools offer alternate learning environments such as Montessori, gifted studies, and at-risk programs, as well as extracurricular activities like baseball, football, and girls soccer.
For more than 100 years, the Central Valley School District has served the Spokane Valley and region. With 22 schools, more than 12,000 students are enrolled in the district's K-12 classes and programs.
Spokane has a total 136 private educational facilities, including preschool and secondary education. Private secondary schools include parochial, Montessori and general academies.
Due to the proximity of Gonzaga Catholic University, however, there is a large number of Catholic secondary schools throughout the city. Some of Spokane’s top rated private schools include Gonzaga Preparatory School serving grades 9-12, St. Michael’s Academy and the Oaks Academy, both of which serve K-12.
