Madison’s health-care system is suited for the needs of its residents during any crisis or time of life with a large quantity of hospitals that have won multiple awards.

UW Health System

Madison’s University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics is the top-ranked hospital in the Madison area and is also among the top 50 U.S. hospitals in seven medical specialties, according to the 2011 edition of U.S. News and World Report's America's Best Hospitals guide.

The magazine also ranked UW Hospital and Clinics as "high-performing" in five additional specialty areas. Only 140 of the almost 5,000 U.S. hospitals were ranked in any medical specialty.

The UW Health System is made of UW Hospital and Clinics, American Family Children’s Hospital and UW Carbone Cancer Center.

Meriter Health Systems

Meriter Hospital was named one of the country’s 100 Top Hospitals by Thomson Reuters. Evaluated among almost 3,000 other hospitals, Meriter surpassed others in multiple categories including patient safety and mortality.

Patients are a top priority, and keeping up with the ever-changing field of health technology is one way to help people get better. Meriter Hospital was recognized as one of the country’s Most Wired Hospitals by Hospitals & Health Networks magazine for its new data center and implemented laptop encryption.

The Meriter Health System is made of Meriter Hospital, Medical Group, clinics and laboratories.

St. Mary’s Hospital

St. Mary’s Hospital has been recognized for its excellence in nursing care by receiving Magnet recognition as part of the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Magnet Recognition Program.

St. Mary’s is also certified by The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Hip and Knee Joint Replacement. This designation means St. Mary’s has not only met the expected requirements, but also has adopted and implemented a continuum of care based on established national best practices.

William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital

The William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital serves about 130,000 veterans in parts of Wisconsin and northwest Illinois. The hospital provides a wide range of care including surgical and psychiatric as well as outpatient services.
