University of Wisconsin
Madison is home to the University of Wisconsin's flagship campus where more than 40,000 students attend. The undergraduate program at UW-Madison is among the best in the country. In fact, U.S. News ranked it #10 among public colleges. The university is part of the Big 10 Conference, and the Wisconsin Badgers compete in 25 different sports that include football to ice hockey.
As a Catholic college in the Dominican tradition, Edgewood College in Madison provides a faith-based environment for students. The college dates back to 1927, and in 2015 had a total enrollment of 2,800. Edgewood offers more than 60 majors and 40 minors, plus individualized programs, with an average class size of 15 students per teacher. The college's motto is "Heart Speaks to Heart." Edgewood also offers NCAA Division III sports such as basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, tennis and track.
Madison also has several smaller institutions to choose from. Madison Area Technical College offers more than 140 career training programs for students looking for instruction in high-demand careers like dental assisting and criminal justice.
