Dane County Farmers Market

The Dane County Farmers Market is the largest producer-only farmers market in the country.

Madison locals can buy the freshest goods available in the city in Capitol Square from April to November and indoors the rest of the year. The market is largest during the summer, and about 300 vendors fill the area by the capitol building.

Madison’s college population helps make malls popular in the city. Located at opposite ends of Madison, the West Towne and East Towne Malls are both chock full of stores and restaurants including Banana Republic and Outback Steakhouse. The malls are 30 minutes apart, but their locations mean that no one has to cross the isthmus to shop.

Hilldale Shopping Center is in the western part of Madison. The mall houses stores like Anthropologie and L’Occitane en Provence and restaurants such as Great Dane Pub & Brewing Co. and FlatTop Grill.

State Street

Popular with locals and tourists alike, State Street is a pedestrian mall in downtown Madison. It connects the state capitol building with the University of Wisconsin-Madison, but it's the shops, restaurants and street musicians that make this a popular destination. There are more than 200 shops on State Street, and everything from jewelry to cigars can be found.
