Oshkosh Area Schools & Colleges Tackle High Tech World
Students have many career path options to study.
It’s in with the “knew” in Oshkosh, with several programs in place to help students prepare for viable, in-demand careers. Here are some examples:
Brain Power
Middle and high school students in the Oshkosh Area School District get to think about 16 Career Cluster options that lead directly to career pathways, and students choose one of those clusters by the time the enter high school. These career pathways help determine the courses students take in grades 9-12 and help identify what post-secondary option is best for after graduation.
The 16 clusters are in agriculture/food/natural resources, architecture/construction, arts/communications, business, education, finance, government, health science, hospitality/tourism, human services, information technology, law/public safety/security, manufacturing, marketing, STEM and transportation/logistics. Oshkosh Area School District is made up of 24 schools and 10,000 students from the city of Oshkosh as well as the towns of Algoma, Black Wolf, Nekimi, Utica and Vinland.
Sky’s the Limit
Area students are jetting into high-paying airline jobs, thanks to Fox Valley Technical College. FVTC now offers four aeronautics technology programs – airframe & powerplant mechanics, aircraft electronics, aeronautics-pilot training and aeronautics-professional pilot – at its Oshkosh campus.
Fox Valley Technical College graduates about 50 students each year from its aeronautics curriculum, with each student averaging three to four job offers right out of school. Graduates of Fox Valley Tech work in nearly a dozen airline-related fields, including working as maintenance technicians, navigational system operators and pilots.

Beginning as a small teacher’s college in 1871, the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh has grown into the third largest university in Wisconsin. UW Oshkosh, home of the Titans, offers nearly 200 majors and minors along with 15 graduate and two doctoral programs.
The university has an award-winning business college, a college of education that provides many of the region’s top teachers, a nursing college that’s the prime supplier of sought-after nurses for area hospitals and clinics, and a liberal arts college loaded with award-winning programs. UW Oshkosh has helped nurture the development of one of the state’s most attractive regions.
Its programs and faculty have won more UW System Board of Regents Teaching Excellence Awards than any other Wisconsin state university. Notable alumni include a former editor of the Des Moines Register and the founder and head of the fast-growing Culver’s restaurant chain.
