Mullins Cheese in Knowlton‚ WI, 20 miles south of Wausau‚ produces nearly a dozen varieties of cheese at two facilities covering 60 acres. Wisconsin is the nation's second largest producer of dairy products - second only to California - and owners Bill Mullins and his brother, Don, have expanded the family business to become the largest family-owned operations of its kind in the state. Their father founded the company in 1970.

On a daily basis‚ Mullins Cheese collects more than 2.2 million pounds of milk from 850 farms located in 23 counties across the region and produces 40-pound blocks of cheese for companies such as Marathon Cheese‚ Sargento and Green Bay Cheese. Cheeses Mullins specializes in include: cheddar, colby, monterey jack, jacko, parmesan and romano.

The company operates a retail store where visitors may watch a video of the cheese-making process and choose from a selection of more than 50 cheeses. The store also stocks a variety of gift items, from Wisconsin souvenirs to packaged gourmet foods and gift boxes that include cheese spreads, syrups, sauces and sausages.

The store is located at 598 Seagull Drive in Mosinee, WI and is open daily, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
