Whether you’re in your 20th year of marriage, lavishing in the honeymoon phase, enjoying the excitement of first dates or in a stage in between, planning the perfect date can be a bit of a challenge. Sheboygan, WI – along with its lively restaurants, fun community events, artsy venues and romantic sunsets over scenic Lake Michigan – takes a bit of the pressure off finding the right activity. Ahead, here are five Sheboygan, WI, date night ideas to get you started.

1. The “Creative” Date

For a thought-provoking activity, the John Michael Kohler Arts Center (JMKAC) and its additional galleries at the Art Preserve, just 10 minutes away, offer thousands of vibrant works. Peruse the galleries while embracing the opportunity to learn more about your partner’s impressions, enchantments and thoughtful inquiries. While planning a visit to JMKAC, keep an eye on its events calendar; you may catch a visiting artist talk or a theatrical performance. Over the summer, you and your partner can walk just a few minutes from JMKAC to City Green, an outdoor stage showcasing a lineup of free live music events through JMKAC’s Levitt AMP Sheboygan Music Series.

When hunger strikes, there are plenty of vibrant eateries in Sheboygan that both of you are sure to love. But a more unexpected choice might be a cooking class at Relish Kitchen Store, which hosts a variety of dinnertime workshops, including specialized classes for couples to test your teamwork. It’s the perfect way to end a date night in Sheboygan, WI.

2. The “Wholesome Fun” Date

Let loose and tap into your child-like whimsy with this date, starting at the competitive grounds of Harbor Pointe Mini Golf. Tally up your score to see who wins and take heart in the youthful fun, all while appreciating the view of Lake Michigan.

After your game, keep the positive energy going and visit South Pier Parlor, a charming ice cream shop that neighbors the mini golf course. The nostalgic parlor atmosphere, along with over 32 hand-dipped ice cream flavors, is sure to keep spirits sweet. Still just a short walk from a waterfront sunset, consider wrapping up your date (perhaps, ice cream in hand) with a stroll toward the Lake Michigan coast and its historic Breakwater Lighthouse.

3. The “Sophisticated” Date

Step back in time with a date night in Sheboygan, WI, by visiting the historic Stefanie H. Weill Center for the Performing Arts. Opened in the 1920s, this revitalized theater hosts a variety of artists, comedians, musicals, dance performances, films and more. Grab your special someone, pull out a dressy outfit and enjoy a fanciful night at this antiquated theater, showcasing a mix of modern and traditional performances. One of the venue’s more traditional series is the Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra, which sets an incredible soundscape for a sophisticated, fancy evening.

Echoing the elegant sounds of the symphony, head down the street for dinner at Trattoria Stefano’s, a locally owned Italian restaurant that boasts a high-end menu of authentic pastas, like ravioli con prosciutto e piselli and casoncelli alla bergamasca.

4. The “Sporty” Date

Catching a Sheboygan A’s baseball game at Wildwood Baseball Park will guarantee some entertainment among a cheering crowd. Share a meal of hot dogs and soda and get into the energy of the game, shouting over home-team runs and questionable umpire calls.

After the game, head a few minutes east to Der Sheboygan Biergarten, a German beer garden along the Sheboygan River. Rows of picnic tables invite guests to sit outside on a sunny day – it doesn’t get much better than an authentic German beer in one hand and a salted pretzel in the other. Biergarten occasionally offers live music and hosts community events (like pickleball tournaments and community fundraisers), so be sure to keep an eye on the calendar.

5. The “Nature Lovers'” Date

When you branch out of downtown, you’ll find stretches of gorgeous nature preserves and dozens more activities to beautify your dates.

Maywood Park, just 10 minutes north of downtown, offers 165 acres of wildlife as well as miles of trails winding through forests, wetlands and prairies. Bring binoculars and journals for you and your partner and make this an exploratory expedition. Catch-and-release fishing is also allowed at Maywood.

If you need another option, head 15 minutes south of downtown, where you will reach the picturesque sand dunes and walkable beaches of Kohler-Andrae State Park. Pack a picnic blanket and snacks for some quality one-on-one time amid the backdrop of Lake Michigan.

After an active outing, you and your partner can settle down for dinner at Field to Fork – a farm-to-table restaurant that perfectly rounds out the date’s nature theme. With a mission to support local agriculturists, this restaurant embraces earthy, yet delicious, flavors.
