Our editorial team investigates the core factors that make communities thrive, celebrating the distinct culture, economy and magic of America’s smaller cities.
Through our annual “Top 100 Best Places to Live” research, our coverage of American relocation trends and our podcast, Inside America’s Best Cities, we provide readers with objective, data-driven content on where to live, work and play.

AI Statement
Like many organizations, we use technology to support our workflow – never as a replacement for humans or critical thinking.
What this means: We may use AI for administrative tasks (think: formatting data spreadsheets or converting math formulas) and as a sounding board for brainstorming. We may ask it questions or turn to it for general inspiration. We double- and triple-check its work for factual accuracy. It’s been wrong too many times for us to trust it with the facts!
What this doesn’t mean: We do not use AI to write our stories or generate photos. Our network of freelance writers signs editorial agreements ensuring all assigned content is 100% original, human-written work.
