When you use our Websites, we request your express consent to our collection, use, and disclosure of your information as described in this Privacy Policy. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal information. We encourage you to read this Privacy Policy to understand what we do with the information.

Photo or Editorial Content: You may also choose to provide additional personal information if you contact us directly with a question or concern or if you choose to contribute content for Livability.com. Photo and editorial content contributions are addressed on our Contributions page.

Cookies: Your express consent and continued use of the Website allows cookies to collect and store information about you and your use of the Website. This information is compiled in aggregate and also helps improve functionality and the quality of the Website and compliance with legal obligations. We may also use your data to protect against or identify possible fraudulent transactions. We will engage in these activities to manage our contractual relationship with you and/or to comply with a legal obligation. We never store your credit card information.

How We Use and Share Information

Transparency about our users’ information is important to Livability.com. We only share your personal information with third parties to the extent necessary to perform essential services for our Websites’ functionality.

Aggregate Information: We may share anonymous user information in the aggregate with third parties, such as advertisers and content distributors. For example, we may disclose the number of users that have been exposed to, or clicked on, advertisements.

Service Providers: Some of the services that are offered through the Website are provided by third-party providers. We also outsource some of our own services to third-party providers, such as technical and customer support, online commenting functions, tracking and reporting functions, quality assurance testing, payment processing functions, and other services. We may share information from or about you with these third-party providers so that they can perform their services or complete your requests.

Advertisers: Our Websites and services are generally funded through advertising dollars. This advertising revenue helps keep our Websites free of charge and allows us to build new features.

Third parties, such as Google AdSense, who provide advertising services to the Websites may use cookies that store data relating to advertisements that have been displayed to you or that you have clicked on. The third parties may be able to associate the information they collect with other information from other sources. We do not necessarily have access to or control over the cookies used by third parties.

If you are in the European Union and use our Websites, you will not see personalized ads based on your past online activity. Instead, the ads you see are targeted using contextual information. Read how Google manages data in its ad products here.

Business Transfers: We may share information from or about you with subsidiaries, joint ventures, or other companies under common control, in which case we will require them to honor this Privacy Policy. If another company acquires us or all or substantially all of our assets, that company will possess the same information, and will assume the rights and obligations with respect to that information as described in this Privacy Policy.

Investigations: We may investigate and disclose information from or about you if we have a good faith belief that such investigation or disclosure is (a) reasonably necessary to comply with legal process and law enforcement instructions and orders, such as a search warrant, subpoena, statute, judicial proceeding, or other legal process served on us; (b) helpful to prevent, investigate, or identify possible wrongdoing in connection with the Website; or (c) protect our rights, reputation, property, or that of our users affiliates, or the public.

Links: The Website may contain links to unaffiliated third-party websites. Except as set forth herein, we do not share your personal information with them, and are not responsible for their privacy practices. We suggest you read the privacy policies on all such third-party websites.

Security: We follow generally accepted industry standards to protect the personal information submitted to us, both during transmission and once we receive it. No method of transmission over the Internet or via mobile device, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure, however. Therefore, while we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

Why Information is Retained

Aggregate Information: Anonymous aggregate traffic information is retained interminably to measure improvements in traffic to our site.

Personal Information: We may keep personal information in our active systems for a period of 5 years (or longer if required by law) in order to ensure our ability to satisfy the authorized uses under this Privacy Policy. For example, we may use retained data to prevent, investigate, or identify possible wrongdoing in connection with the Website or to comply with legal obligations.
