The University of Florida (UF) in Gainesville, Florida, is charting the course for how universities effectively and ethically leverage artificial intelligence to enhance the power of research and address the needs of society. UF’s “AI Across the Curriculum” strategy ensures that students across all disciplines have access to classes that prepare them to thrive in an AI-driven economy. And in keeping with its mission, UF is extending these opportunities to pre-K through 12 students, as well as working professionals and local businesses.

UF’s approach is sustained, and advanced, by its close relationship with NVIDIA Corp., established through computer manufacturer NVIDIA’s co-founder and UF alumnus Chris Malachowsky. In 2020, UF was gifted HiPerGator, one of the world’s most powerful supercomputers. And in early 2025, through its collaboration with NVIDIA, HiPerGator was upgraded with technology so new it had yet to reach the market, positioning it yet again as one of the most powerful supercomputers in higher education, and the world.

Supporting AI Research and Discovery

Researchers from across the nation are working with UF scientists and HiPerGator on projects that span public infrastructure, like simulating flooding scenarios and improving emergency responses, to addressing debilitating health concerns, such as Parkinson’s disease.

Additionally, HiPerGator supports universities throughout the state and nation, further establishing Gainesville as a research hub and resource.

AI Across the Curriculum

Building on its vision as the nation’s first university to fully integrate AI into all academic disciplines, UF now offers more than 200 AI-focused courses spanning across all 16 colleges. From agriculture to engineering, students are learning to harness AI’s transformative potential to solve real-world problems.
