Kearney High School Exposes Students to Various Career Paths

Kearney High School’s career and technical education (CTE) programs are a cornerstone of the region’s successful workforce development efforts. In fact, in 2025, the school earned the prestigious Outstanding Secondary Program Award by the Nebraska Department of Education for its exceptional CTE offerings. 

“Kearney Public Schools offers all students a wide set of experiential learning opportunities to explore,” says Jason Mundorf, superintendent of Kearney Public Schools. “This gives parents confidence that their child has had the chance to sample several career technical areas, building interests in well-paying jobs after high school.” 

Kearney High School offers programs in high-demand fields such as agriculture; food and natural resources; business, marketing and IT; health sciences; human sciences; and skilled and technical sciences. 

Through partnerships with local colleges, students can enroll in dual-credit courses, earning college credit while in high school. Students also have access to the Kearney Health Opportunities Program and Kearney Teachers Tomorrow Scholarship Program at UNK. 

Beyond academics, Kearney High School students are offered career and technical hands-on learning opportunities through organizations such as FFA, Future Business Leaders of America and SkillsUSA.

“Students can even earn career certificates in fields like nursing, welding and construction technology,” he says. “We strongly believe in exposing students to diverse career fields, setting the foundation for their future educational and vocational pursuits.”
