Whether you want to immerse yourself in fine art, dive into natural history or celebrate a beloved musical icon, the area offers opportunities that appeal to every taste.
Must-visit cultural highlights include the Art Museum of South Texas, the Selena Museum, the Texas State Museum of Asian Cultures, the USS Lexington Museum and the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History.
Stepping Into the Past
At the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History, the emphasis is on a diverse lineup of specialized programming.
“We host a wide variety of signature events and recurring programs that have become favorites within the community,” says Amy Frye, director of strategic initiatives. “Throughout the year, the museum features large signature events that bring people together through science, history, creativity and hands-on learning.”
While events such as Weather Fest and STEM Day by the Bay are especially popular with families and students, Frye notes that visitors don’t have to wait for a major festival to drop by.
“Beyond those larger events, there’s always something happening at the museum,” she says. “Guests can enjoy rotating scavenger hunts included with daily admission, seasonal activities, educational workshops and hands-on programs that make every visit feel different.”
The USS Lexington (CV-16) was originally built during World War II and used throughout the Pacific war. While the ship was decommissioned in 1991, it now serves as a gateway into military history in the area. Samantha Stapp, the director of marketing at the USS Lexington Museum, says visitors can experience more than 100 exhibits across five self-guided tour routes, with 21 restored aircraft and over 500 preserved spaces throughout the ship.
Highlights include the flight deck, which offers incredible views of Corpus Christi Bay, a flight simulator, the Joe Jessel 3D MEGA Theater, the Pearl Harbor exhibit and the museum’s newest exhibit, Women of the Navy, an interactive experience that shares the stories, service and contributions of women U.S. Navy members.
Beyond local history, the Coastal Bend’s art and specialized cultural spaces tell more stories. The Selena Museum provides a heartfelt look into the life of the Queen of Tejano music, showcasing her iconic outfits and awards inside her actual recording studio.
On the waterfront, the Art Museum of South Texas is a striking architectural marvel housing a premier collection of fine and regional art. Meanwhile, the Texas State Museum of Asian Cultures serves as a unique regional treasure, bridging continents with its stunning collection of traditional artifacts, textiles and rich heritage displays.

“The USS Lexington Museum contributes to the Corpus Christi community in ways that extend beyond tourism,” Stapp says. “We welcome thousands of students each year through field trips, hands-on STEM activities and our Camp LEX Overnight Adventure program. It’s a chance for youth to experience history in a way that’s memorable, while also encouraging teamwork and leadership skills.”
This commitment to community engagement is echoed at the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History.
“Because the Coastal Bend has such a unique relationship with history, science and the natural environment, the museum provides an opportunity to experience how all of those things intersect,” Frye says. “Through educational programming, school partnerships, public events and community collaborations, we’re able to create experiences that feel meaningful, interactive and accessible for both residents and visitors alike.”
