Due to the area’s mild climate and natural beauty, Prattville residents have lots of options for hunting, fishing, camping, boating, golfing, or just taking in the views – all day or for just an hour.

Fishing and Hunting

Looking for somewhere to use that gear purchased at Prattville’s Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World? You’ll find dozens of creeks, streams, ponds and lakes all within a short drive. The Alabama River, a prime waterway, lies just to the south.

One of the most popular places to play is Cooters Pond Park, located right on the river. It has two boat ramps and docks, a river walk, basketball court, dog park and open green spaces.

Bear Creek Quail Hunting Preserve offers sportsmen the opportunity to hunt trophy whitetail, quail, dove and wild turkey. Individual hunters and groups are both welcome.

One of the most distinctive parks in the region is the Wilderness Park, which features giant oriental bamboo that lines a short walking trail and shoots up more than 60 feet in the air. The park, established in 1982, was the first of its kind to open within a city in the U.S.

Canoeing

Grab an oar and float or paddle down the 13-mile-long Autauga Creek Canoe Trail. The trail carries canoers through shaded areas full of trees, plants and wildlife. The most popular route is a 4-mile trip that begins at the dam and ends at the Canoe Trail Park. Several springs feed into the creek, and the last 2 miles run from Canoe Trail Park to the Alabama River. Take caution, though: There is no road access, so if you head toward the river, be ready to paddle back upstream.

City Parks

The park system in Prattville consists of nearly 20 city parks. Families with small children can take advantage of the playgrounds at Spring Hill, Kiwanis, North Highland, Easy Street and Pratt parks. Baseball, softball and soccer fields can be found at many of the parks, including Spinners, Bell, Upper Kingston, Mac Gray and Newton parks. Golf

Golf has become a major attraction in Prattville, thanks to the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, which is a collection of championship-caliber golf courses distributed across Alabama.

One of the most popular sites is the Capitol Hill site in Prattville, which hosts the Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic and contains three separate 18-hole courses: Judge, Legislator and Senator. The Judge course was named one of the top 50 courses in America by the Zagat Survey of America’s Top Golf Courses, while Golf Magazine named it one of 10 sites worthy of hosting the U.S. Open.

Prattville Country Club offers a regulation length 18-hole course, with 6,413 yards of golf measuring a par 71, and terrain that challenges golfers with hills and flat areas. Amenities include an Olympic-size pool with slides, a cabana, locker rooms, and golf and pro shop. The club, established in 1965, also features a restaurant offering hand-cut steaks, fresh fish, fine wines and a banquet area.
