What’s the next step in the grand marijuana experiment taking place across the country?

A small Washington town has gotten into the business of selling pot, according to The Columbian. North Bonneville, a town of about 1,000 people located in the Columbia River Gorge, has become the first city in the country to sell marijuana. The city’s store, called The Cannabis Corner, opened for business March 7.

The town’s mayor, Don Stevens, told The Columbian that the store gives the city more control over the local pot industry while providing a new stream of revenue.

“We wanted confidence that we would have a marijuana retail establishment in here that was run by an organization that was really interested in doing the right things for the community,” Stevens told The Narcosphere.

The setup is similar to the way cities in Minnesota own liquor stores. North Bonneville gets a steady stream of tourists who come to the area to hike, windsurf and enjoy the rugged mountains. A nearby restaurant owner said he’s working on deals to offer coupons to his place with purchases from The Cannabis Corner.
