Kansas City may be one of our Top 100 Best Places to Live for 2019, but it’s also one of the best places to cool down. Known as the “City of Fountains,” Kansas City, MO is home to 48 public fountains with several that kids (and adults!) can splash around in. If that’s not enough, city-owned waterpark The Bay is a fan favorite for locals and features a surf simulator along with a huge lazy river and swirl bowl slide. After a day in the water, head over to Betty Rae’s Ice Cream for a few scoops in a homemade waffle cone.
