#4. Williamsburg, VA
When you think of Virginia, you may picture the historic homes and sites that represent the birthplace of America. But the state has more going for it than history, including its stunning beaches. Jamestown Beach in Williamsburg is noted as a “hidden gem” by the Virginia Tourism Corporation due to its year-round access to calm waters and clean shorelines.
If a dip in the ocean doesn’t tickle your fancy, a trip (or two or three) around the 700-foot lazy river at Water Country USA might do the trick. As the mid-Atlantic’s largest water park, Water Country USA features thrilling slides as well as plenty of places to cool off and unwind. Wait for the hot sun to go down and head over to the Yorktown Riverwalk Landing, where you can embark on a sunset sailing tour and might even see some dolphins.
