#41. Richardson, TX

A hip suburb in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, Richardson is part of the nationally known Telecom Corridor, which is home to more than 500 high-tech and telecommunications companies. Multinational companies feel right at home in Richardson, and have a tradition of choosing the city for their headquarters or regional offices. Residents who settle here appreciate the top-notch schools, home values, safe neighborhoods and the Dallas Area Rapid Transit system, known as DART, which cuts through the heart of the city, making transportation a breeze. A busy festival calendar, 40 miles of hiking and biking trails, and the Charles W. Eisemann Center for the Performing Arts make living here fun, too.

Top Industries and Employers: Financial services, insurance, telecommunications and public education are among the top industries in Richardson, and State Farm Insurance, GenPact and Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Texas are the biggest employers.

Best Coffee Shop: I Love U A-Latte is as cute as its name suggests, with a homey feel and a creative latte menu with flavors like midnight lavender that has chocolate in it.

Best Local Beer/Brewery: Four Bullets Brewery, where you’ll notice a casino theme among the beer names. Your odds are good here, whether you order the All in IPA or the Snake Eyes Oatmeal Stout.

Must-Have Meal: Any of the smoked meats from Ten 50 BBQ, where you’ll find the best Texas-style barbecue around.

Best Co-Working Space: The Drawing Board, where hip murals of Albert Einstein, Bob Marley and Selena help fuel inspiration.

Best Meetup Spot (When Meeting Up Is a Thing Again): Play pinball or claim your title as a Ms. Pacman champ at Free Play arcade.

Creative Hub: The Charles W. Eisemann Center for Performing Arts and Corporate Presentations is a performance hall that hosts theater productions, concerts, comedy and more.

Favorite Weekend Activity: Hanging out at CityLine, a mixed-use development with restaurants, shops, entertainment and a calendar full of events, like movie nights, concerts and wine tastings.

Free Way to Have Fun: Go birdwatching in Galatyn Park Woodland Preserve.

Local Dream Job: An instructor at Sherrill Park Golf Course, a top-rated, award-winning course.
