Victor Valley, CA: A Top Choice For Businesses

Businesses with regional, national and global reach, such as Dr Pepper Snapple Group and Boeing, as well as retailers and restaurants including Walmart and BJ’s Brewhouse and Restaurant, are making the Victor Valley area their business address of choice. In the region, which includes the communities of Adelanto, Apple Valley, Barstow, Hesperia and Victorville, employers of all sizes enjoy a prime location, a business-friendly regulatory environment, affordable land, a growing population of more than 400,000 residents and a job-ready workforce.

Investments the region has made in its public infrastructure system and its location astride major transportation routes have attracted significant manufacturing investments and made it a key logistics location. In fact, fully 60 percent of all goods moving into and out of Southern California travel through Victorville because of those investments, particularly in the Southern California Logistics Airport (SCLA), Southern California Logistics Center (SCLC) and Foxborough Industrial Park.

“We are one of the few locations in Southern California that offers affordable land and industrial space available for immediate development; and we may be the only municipality in Southern California to offer a combination of ground, rail and air transportation via our industrial parks,” says City Manager Doug Robertson.

Investing in Infrastructure

More major infrastructure investments are under way. U.S. Highway 395, a major route that bi-sects Adelanto, will undergo a major expansion between Palmdale Road and Chamberlaine Way and enhance the commercial and retail corridor of the city, says Adelanto Mayor Rich Kerr. State Highway 18, which connects Adelanto to Los Angeles County and to ports in Los Angeles and Long Beach, will be widened into a divided highway from Highway 395 to the Los Angeles County line. The much anticipated E-220, known as the High Desert Corridor, will be a six-lane freeway and high speed rail connecting Palmdale and the Victor Valley region. It is under environmental review.

“For the past 46-years the City of Adelanto has continued to attract businesses and residents because of its prime location in the High Desert region of San Bernardino County,” Kerr says.

Strategically located within 100 miles of Los Angeles, the city boasts five industrial parks, including one of the largest areas of industrial land available for development in the High Desert. With 11.4 square miles of land zoned for industrial and business use, ample vacant land in its 52 square miles and a pro-business City Council, Adelanto is well positioned to accommodate future growth and development, Kerr says. Those developments include Clark Pacific’s state-of-the-art concrete manufacturing plant, slated to replace a smaller facility in Irwindale and bring as many as 500 jobs to Adelanto. The facility will produce precast concrete for parking structures, retail stores, auto dealerships and other uses. In addition, plans have been submitted to move forward with the 280,000-square-foot Adelanto Towne Center, situated at the southwest corner of Highway 395 and Mojave Drive, Kerr says.

In Hesperia, the Tapestry project, being developed by Terra Verde Group, will create a 19,000-home master-planned community aimed at younger families. The development will be built in phases over several years.

Room to Grow

In Victorville, aviation businesses like Boeing enjoy unique advantages including an industrial airport perfectly suited for maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) and flight testing. Manufacturing and distribution companies such as Dr Pepper Snapple, United Furniture Industries and Arden Cos. enjoy close proximity to all western markets, competitive rates offered by Victorville Municipal Utility Services, an industrial wastewater treatment plant and a business-friendly air quality management district.

“An estimated 5 million square feet of industrial space has been constructed within Victorville’s industrial parks with expansion opportunities estimated at an additional 15 million square feet,” Robertson says.
