Victor Valley leverages a wealth of infrastructure assets to make it a leading logistics hub for a variety of industries.

Available land, low-cost utilities, rail access, roadways that are less congested than surrounding areas, as well as close proximity to Interstate 15 and seaports in Los Angeles and Long Beach have given the region a unique set of advantages and drawn distribution operations for the likes of Walmart, Dr Pepper Snapple, Goodyear Tire & Rubber, Mars Chocolate and Red Bull.

The region offers direct access to I-15, U.S. 395 and State Route 18 along with rail lines and air service, including Ontario International Airport.

Class I rail carriers BNSF and Union Pacific serve the region, and a future rail complex is planned for the Global Access Victorville development at Southern California Logistics Airport (SCLA).

Big News with Big Lots

Those advantages are drawing additional distribution operations. In Apple Valley, a 1.3 million-square-foot distribution center will help retailer Big Lots tap into growing e-commerce opportunities. The $115 million distribution center the 6,600-acre North Apple Valley Industrial Specific Plan will be one of only five in North America for the retailer.

“The logistics facility will be the largest in the High Desert and will add 300 construction jobs to the area and up to 500 operational jobs when open in 2019,” says Orlando Acevedo, assistant director of economic development, housing and transit for Apple Valley. “It will be located just south of the existing Walmart distribution center.”

The town also houses the 5.5 million-square-foot LEED-certified Watson Logistics Center that includes space for industrial warehousing and distribution centers as well as other business sectors.

Busy with Business at SCLA

The Global Access Victorville development at SCLA houses operations for major companies including Arden, Boeing, Dr Pepper Snapple, Exel, Fastenal, FedEx,  Leading Edge, Newell Brands, Plastipak Packaging, Pratt & Whitney, Red Bull, Sparkletts, Solar City Corporation and United Furniture Industries.

Stirling Development and the City of Victorville have teamed up to grow Global Access Victorville and SCLA into an 8,500-acre multimodal freight transportation hub that includes a 2,500-acre commercial and industrial complex with 60 million square feet of space.

“Over the past 10 years, Stirling has been responsible for the development of almost 4 million square feet of quality industrial warehouse and manufacturing facilities at Southern California Logistics Airport,” says Anita Tuckerman, vice president of asset services and corporate relations at Stirling Development. “With large, affordable land parcels still available, Victor Valley remains one of the few locations in Southern California ideally suited for corporate America’s industrial real estate needs.”

Tuckerman adds that Victor Valley is one of the most attractive places in California for companies to do business.

“A skilled workforce, business-friendly communities, low overall operating costs and a favorable air quality management district all support the decision to locate here for both distribution and manufacturing users,” she says. “In addition, affordable housing, quality of life and a wide variety of recreational activities combine to enhance employees’ overall job satisfaction.”
