Finding family-friendly fun things to do in Castle Rock is easy if you know where to look. From campsites to museums to playgrounds, there are so many fun activities that are perfect for the whole family to enjoy. Here are six entertaining excursions to get you started: 

1. Live It Up with Resort-Style Camping

Take the whole family on a camping adventure they won’t forget at Jellystone Park at Larkspur. Just a quick drive away from Castle Rock, the park is open year-round and is so much more than a campground. It has all the amenities imaginable, from a water playground to arcades to mini-bowling and more. Plus, there are sports courts for volleyball, pickleball and basketball as well as mini golf, an outdoor pool and even a gem-mining activity. This is camping at its finest. 

2. Explore the Great Outdoors

Let the kids get all that excess energy out by playing outside. Hike one of the many nearby trails, including the Philip S. Miller Park Trails & Challenge Hill, which is an active regional park with trails and playgrounds. This is also where you’ll find The EDGE Ziplines, which includes a fun adventure tour, ninja course and sky trek. Another popular park is the Possibilities Playground at Butterfield Crossing, featuring all-inclusive play equipment.

3. Participate in Kid-Friendly Fitness Fun 

Fitness-forward activities are always a great option. If you’ve got kids that are competitive, you can sign up for the Climb4Change at the 200-step Challenge Hill, or you can participate in the free 5K races that are offered on the first Friday of June, July and August in Festival Park. Also in the summer, there’s Fitness Fridays. Sign up for Zumba, strength cardio and pilates. Festival Park also hosts yoga for all ages on Monday evenings. 

4. Watch a Movie Under the Stars 

Outdoor movies are far more exciting, right? Castle Rock thinks so, as it has two different parks that host regular movie nights! Movie in the Meadows takes place at Mercantile Park. Or venture over to Movie in the Park at Festival Park. The movie begins at dusk, and all you need to do is bring your own blanket and chairs to enjoy this completely free event. 

5. Immerse Yourself in Local History 

Looking for an educational outing for the kids to enjoy? Visit the Castle Rock Historical Society and Museum. Located in a well-preserved old train depot, the museum features original interior accents like a ticket window and baggage area. The Castle Rock Historical Society and Museum aims to highlight the local heritage and history of the area, making it an ideal place to teach the children about the place where they live.

6. Enjoy Mouth-Watering Decadent Desserts 

Ready to indulge in a sweet treat? Castle Rock has plenty to choose from. One local staple you must try is Glacier Homemade Ice Cream and Gelato, which is known for creating over 1,000 flavors over the years.
