The Stamford, Conn., dining scene is flourishing like never before with new restaurants opening all the time and established businesses holding their own. With changes to zoning regulations just a few years ago, Stamford’s restaurant industry today is thriving and some say this community now offers the diverse mix of dining options that people used to travel 40 miles into New York City to find. Now, with dozens of choices – including Greek, French, Italian, Asian, seafood and American restaurants – Stamford is becoming known as the place to get a bite, and is attracting diners from near and far. The city’s vibrant food scene is one of the reasons why Stamford is a Top 100 Best City to Live. It may be a college town, but Stamford’s top restaurants are ahead of the normal class.

Check out our list below for the best restaurants in Stamford, CT:

Café Silvium

This family-friendly restaurant prides itself on making every menu item fresh daily and in-house. With an extensive menu serving lunch, dinner, dessert and wine, Café Silvium’s specialties are its handmade pastas, particularly the cavatelli, which is the chef’s specialty. Brothers Nick and Vincenzo Petrafesa opened their restaurant, at 371 Shippan Ave., in 2001 with recipes from their hometown of Gravina Di Puglia, Bari, Italy.

Eos Greek Cuisine

This modern Greek restaurant, at 490 Summer St., features fresh, often local food and simple architecture with accents of blue to mimic the still waters of the Mediterranean. Eos has become a downtown Stamford favorite, a place where you can find many vegetarian dishes alongside grilled meats and fish selections. A favorite pastime at this relaxing restaurant is learning how Greek wines pair with your favorite dishes.

Pellicci’s Ristorante

Pellicci’s has undergone some renovations and updates since it first opened in 1947, but the restaurant still has members of the Pellicci family working there and cooking hearty portions of traditional Italian-American cuisine. Now, the restaurant’s welcoming ambiance encourages generations of locals and newcomers alike to call the 96 Stillwater Ave. restaurant “our place.” There is a lounge with whispering waterfall and stained-glass ceiling, and Pellicci’s also is popular for take-out and delivery.

City Limits Diner

Offering much more than the average diner, this shiny eatery serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, and appeals to both adults and children with a menu consisting of “comforting, sophisticated dishes.” Here, a child can get a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, while adults can order Maryland lump crab cakes, steaks and beer and wine. The family-run City Limits Diner, at 135 Harvard Ave., also offers gourmet pastries and house-smoked meats.

Crab Shell

With a fantastic waterfront location on the Stamford Landing Marina, Crab Shell has been “rocking the dock” since 1989. Offering a seafood and fish-themed menu, the casual restaurant also serves steak and barbecued ribs, and has slips for transit boaters. On summer evenings, the dock provides a unique experience with views of the waterfront and live music at the adjacent Crab Shack outdoor bar.
