Virtual reality will become more of a reality in 2015 for students in Duncanville.
California-based EON Reality and the city of Duncanville are partnering to establish a Duncanville Entrepreneur School that will train 30 local graduates who wish to become 3-D artists, modelers and programmers. The mission is to teach these students virtual reality applications that can be used in area growth industries such as energy, health care, sports, education and transportation.
Upon completion of the 12-month program, those students will ideally find lucrative careers within the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex or throughout the state.
“We chose Duncanville because our company targets smaller cities where students seem to be more eager to excel in technology-advanced careers,” says Dan Lejerskar, chairman of EON Reality. “When our company first visited Duncanville, we found a nice quality of life, so we have even established a branch office in the city.”
The Entrepreneur School curriculum involves three months of initial training to teach students the basics of virtual reality such as animation, scripting and 3-D modeling. After that, students tackle nine more months of innovative projects that will involve working for regional and global companies located within the Metroplex area.
The inaugural 12-month program is scheduled to begin during the second half of 2015 in building space owned by the city.
“Virtual reality is used in everything from smartphones to sports performance enhancement to movie cinema domes that immerse users in the experience,” Lejerskar says. “Students at the Duncanville Entrepreneur School will not only be taught virtual reality, but also how to learn faster and remember better. It’s a very advanced program.”
