Collaborative Efforts in Education Lead to More Career Opportunities in the Robins Region
Throughout Middle Georgia, several new developments are increasing career training opportunities for students. Houston County boasts the highest number of dual-enrolled students in Georgia, and several programs make this achievement possible.
One of the programs takes place at Project Synergy, where space is provided for high school students in Houston County to take dual enrollment classes through Middle Georgia State University. The program’s goal is to start building a pipeline of software engineers to meet the growing demand for such careers at Robins Air Force Base and Middle Georgia companies.
Also available is the Fort Valley State University Digital Fabrication Lab, an innovation center that introduces K-12 students to careers in STEM and skills such as 3D printing, laser engraving, robotics and textiles production. The Fab Lab opened in 2023 in the Warner Robins Center, and there are plans for a mobile lab to travel to area classrooms.
Another strong educational initiative is called Robins North, a partnership involving Macon-Bibb County, Central Georgia Technical College, the State of Georgia and Robins AFB. Robins North emphasizes the commitment to technological advancement and workforce development in the region, especially when it comes to training future engineers.
Blue Sky Lab is another educational development project, located in Macon and part of a strategy to integrate Robins AFB more closely with the Middle Georgia community. The lab’s mission is to inspire more students to take a greater interest in software engineering and other career paths in innovation fields.
Also, new lofts are now available to students at Central Georgia Technical College or Trinity School of Medicine. The 265-bed housing complex called Lofts at Houston Central is located in Warner Robins.
