For nearly 70 years, Sacred Heart Catholic School in Warner Robins, Georgia, has lived out its mission to nurture spirituality, self-discipline, service and academic excellence – all while helping each child shine. Today, Sacred Heart Crusaders number nearly 300 strong from PreK2 through eighth grade. With an emphasis on Christ-centered education and cultivating problem-solving skills, students engage with hands-on academics and activities to become lifelong learners.

Collaborative Community in the Robins Region

Warner Robins is home to the Robins Air Force Base. “The fabulous thing about Sacred Heart Catholic School is our community,” says Principal Al Chromy, who was particularly drawn to the position in Warner Robins after retiring from the Air Force and earning a master’s degree in school administration.

A father of five, he recognizes the challenges parents face in supporting a child’s educational journey and feels a special kinship with military families who are often on the move. At Sacred Heart, he says, “We have such active, engaged support in our school that it creates this dynamic energy of people who are passionate about the education of their children.”

That energy fuels the school’s academic reputation, paving the way for the recent addition of interactive STEM labs dedicated to science, technology, engineering and math.

Sacred Heart Catholic School Prioritizes STEM Education

“We have two different STEM labs: one for PreK through fifth grade and a second lab for sixth through eighth graders, which also includes a recording studio,” explains STEM leader Cyndi Fuller.  Students are learning not just science or technology but critical thinking – how to be analytical, problem-solve, communicate and collaborate, Fuller says.

“The students work as pairs, and it helps them gain 21st-century skills and knowledge for future careers,” she says. “Every step we do is helping prepare them to be leaders.”

Principal Chromy notes those important STEM education lessons are also being used in other classes. “They’re learning to work in teams,” he says, “and that’s the way of the world. Working together to solve problems.”
