Health Care
Idaho Falls is part of a large three-state health care hub in eastern Idaho. Major hospitals include Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center (which celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2016) and Portneuf Medical Center, both of which have Trauma II and NICU/Women’s & Infant Centers. Mountain View Hospital is a physicians-owned facility with 600 employees; other top regional facilities are Bingham Memorial Hospital and Blackfoot Medical Center.

Golden Valley Natural recently completed a $14 million capital expansion to produce natural meat products and snacks sold throughout the world, while Basic American Foods has nearly 1,000 employees who produce dehydrated potatoes and beans. Idahoan Foods, headquartered in Idaho Falls, with a processing and packaging plant nearby, produces instant mashed potatoes from famous Idaho russets. Potandon Produce leads North America as a marketer and distribution agent for fresh potatoes and onions, including the exclusive licensing rights to Green Giant brands. J.R. Simplot Company is one of the largest privately held food and agribusiness companies in the nation, with multiple facilities focusing on food products, chemicals and fertilizers. Broulim’s Fresh Foods opened a 63,000-square-foot supermarket in early 2016 in Ammon at Sandcreek Commons, complete with a sandwich bar, fresh sushi and an in-store Dairy Queen.
Idaho National Laboratory
The largest employer in Greater Idaho Falls is the Idaho National Laboratory, an 890-square-mile complex in the Eastern Idaho high desert. The INL is operated by Battelle Energy Alliance, and is the lead nuclear R&D facility for the U.S. Department of Energy. Other energy-based contractors in the region include Bechtel Marine Propulsion that operates the Idaho Naval Reactors Facility, and Fluor, the newly named contractor operating the Idaho Cleanup Project.
