Chicago Southland’s Snackville Junction Remains Fun Food Stop
Snackville Junction is a train-themed restaurant in Everland Park, IL.
A longstanding popular restaurant in Evergreen Park that still chugs right along is Snackville Junction, located on South Kidzie Avenue. The original “serve by train” diner offers lunches, dinners and takeout orders, but its main draw is an old-time lunch counter where patrons can sit and watch model trains that deliver food orders to customers sitting at the counter.
The miniature train tracks begin from the kitchen and stretch the full length of the counter, and whenever a customer’s order is ready to be served, the model train sounds its horn and rumbles along the track until it stops in front of the hungry customer. There, plastic baskets of hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken tenders, fries or onion rings are unloaded by the customers, and the eating begins. Sandwiches such as reubens, grilled chicken and clubs can also be ordered.
Waitresses are on hand to provide beverages such as milkshakes and soft drinks, plus the menu includes hot coffee and tea. Snackville Junction is particularly popular with parents with children, but the eatery is open to people of all ages who enjoy a fun dining experience.
The hours are Monday-Saturday from 11 a.m.-8 p.m., and Sundays 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Call (708) 423-1313 for takeouts or more information.
