Locals and root beer aficionados line up at Gene’s Rootbeer on Scatterfield Road, with car hop service and gallons to-go of their renowned soft drink.

Sure, Anderson has your typical chain restaurants, but it’s the mom-and-pop diners, the international cuisine and the local drive-ins that serve up the best meals.

The Lemon Drop on Mounds Road serves up classic diner food, including its signature onion burger. There’s even a train that goes around the shop, and the old-school sign is worth a drive-by even if you aren’t hungry.

Speaking of onions…people rave about the onion rings at Anderson Grill, not to mention huge portions of home cooking at affordable prices for breakfast and lunch, all brought to you with extra friendly service.

Frazier’s Dairy Maid on Main Street is another classic joint, offering Coney dogs, chili cheese fries, more than a dozen slushes – watermelon and green apple among them – and its own floats, coolers and ice cream treats, named the best ice cream in town by the local newspaper.
