Region abounds with excellent education options

East Central Indiana’s colleges and universities offer a range of certificate, undergraduate and graduate programs, from engineering to education, health care to the humanities.

Named one of the best universities in the Midwest by the Princeton Review for 12 consecutive years, Ball State in Muncie is a national leader in teacher training and digital education. The university offers 190 undergraduate and graduate degree programs as well as online and distance learning options.

With campuses in Anderson, Marion, Muncie and nearby Indianapolis, Ivy Tech Community College offers 40 certificate programs and associate degrees in eight areas of study, including business, early childhood education, health sciences, nursing, social services and manufacturing.

Formerly Indiana Business College, Harrison College offers certificate programs, associate and bachelor’s degrees in six areas of study, including business, criminal justice, health care, IT, and veterinary technology at 11 campuses around the region. The Chef’s Academy at Harrison College’s Indianapolis campus offers programs in the culinary and pastry arts.

With campuses in Richmond, Connersville and New Castle, Indiana University East offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in business and economics, education, the humanities, informatics, science and mathematics, nursing, and social work. IU East also offers a seamless pathway to a four-year degree for graduates of Ivy Tech Community College.

With 3,000 students, Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion is the largest private college in the state. While the university offers 80 undergraduate degree programs, 38 graduate degrees and five doctoral programs, the school is best known for its nursing program, housed in state-of-the-art Ott Hall of Sciences and Nursing.

A four-year, Church of God-affiliated liberal arts university, Anderson University provides undergraduate and graduate degree programs in such areas as humanities and behavioral science, music, theater and dance, engineering, nursing, and kinesiology. The school also offers degrees in theology and Christian ministry.

Named the top regional college in the Midwest in 2017 by U.S. News & World Report, Taylor University in Upland is also one of the top Christian liberal arts colleges in the nation. The university offers more than 60 programs, from aerospace engineering and art education to web communication and youth ministry. The university’s exercise science program also boasts a top-rated internship program.

Earlham College in Richmond is ranked among the top liberal arts colleges in the nation for teacher training. The college also boasts the oldest Japanese studies program in the country. The immersion program offers classes in Japanese language, culture, music, history, religion and environmental studies. Students are also able to supplement their studies with off-campus experiences such as study abroad and internships.

With campuses in Anderson and Richmond, Purdue Polytechnic Institute is a leader in innovation and technical education. The institute offers hands-on education, and students are active participants in researching and developing solutions to real-world problems.
