Brews You Can Use: Favorite Southern Indiana Breweries + Coffee Shops

Southern Indiana’s brew scene is a flavorful affair. You can start your day with a cup of joe and end it with an ice-cold beer. Here are a few Southern Indiana breweries and coffee shops you need to check out. 

A.M. Energy 

Starlight Coffee Co.: Since 2002, Starlight has been a staple in Southern Indiana. In addition to having several locations locally, the company’s products are served in area restaurants. Starlight buys the highest-grade green beans, then roasts them locally. From the Colombia Huila and Ethiopia Yirgacheffe to Sumatra Mandheling, the choices are as delicious as they are worldly. 

Coffee Crossing: Founded in 2003 and now with eight locations throughout the area, Coffee Crossing prides itself on building community with a warm, inviting atmosphere. It serves a full selection of decadent drinks. Try the Miami Mocha, made with chocolate and orange zest. 

Kölkin Coffee: In Danish, kölkin means river eddy, a fitting name for a coffee shop located near the Ohio River. You’ll find Kölkin northeast of downtown New Albany, with a welcoming, homey interior and neighborly vibe. The family-owned business roasts beans on-site, making its beverages fresh and tasty. 

True North Coffee House: In downtown New Albany, a once bustling department store is now a popular coffee house. True North serves the standard favorites, but it’s particularly known for its specialty drinks, like Café Miel, made with espresso, milk, honey and cinnamon. Icy choices are available, too, like the Sweet Cream and Salted Cream cold brews. 

Warriors Den:  Located in downtown Scottsburg, this store offers a little bit of everything. There’s coffee, of course, along with doughnuts, muffins, ice cream and banana splits. Warriors Den also sells games and has tables for playing and organized events.

TEN20 Craft Brewery: This brewery got its start in Louisville before opening its Southern Indiana location across the Ohio River in Clarksville. Innovative craft beers are the focus, with about one dozen on tap. There’s a brew for everyone, from pilsners, lagers and IPAs to unique options, like a pineapple mango sour. 

Upland Brewing Co.:  With several locations in Indiana, Upland is well-known in the Hoosier State. In Southern Indiana, this spot in Jeffersonville sits along the Ohio River. While admiring the Louisville skyline from the patio, you can enjoy burgers, sandwiches and pizzas as you sip classics, seasonals, sour ales and more. 

Floyd County Brewing Co.: This medieval-themed brewpub in New Albany describes itself as having “a Monty Python sort of vibe.” Along with brewing a full slate of beers, the pub serves homemade sandwiches, burgers, salads and seafood dishes. 

FISTFUL Craft Restaurant & Brewery: This is another New Albany brewery/restaurant, where the quality of the food is just as important as the beer. From lagers and IPAs to fruity sours and a craft root beer, FISTFUL rotates flavors through its 20 taps. On the food front, the menu features items like burgers, wings and tacos. 

Thirst & Main: Also in New Albany is Thirst & Main, a city block full of food, drink and entertainment venues. This means you can hop from one establishment to the next. Check out places like Floyd County Brewing Co., The High Dive, which is an upscale dive bar, outdoor music venue The Enchanted Forest, and indoor music venue Forest Music Hall. 

Red Yeti: This downtown Jeffersonville spot is housed in a restored brick building. Dating to 1881, it’s been home to everything from a grocery store to a doctor’s office. Today, the restaurant serves scratch cocktails, wine and a dozen craft beers from breweries near and far. Plus, it’s menu is delicious.
