Lawrence is a beautiful city offering amazing outdoor activities and a fun and unique culture. Families enjoy great activities indoors and outdoors year round in Lawrence. From the extraordinary Lawrence Busker Festival to the educational Spencer Museum of Art, Lawrence has lots to offer.

Limestone

Limestone is a staple of the Lawrence community. Not only does Limestone offer pizza and fantastic service, but also restaurant owners, Rick Martin and Mikey Humphrey, are dedicated to their contribution to the local community. The restaurant puts an emphasis on local farmers. By serving delicious and healthy locally grown food, Limestone helps support the local farm economy. In addition to economic support, Limestone is dedicated to benefiting the education of local kids through their support for Farm to School programs and school gardening.

Prairie Park Nature Center

The Prairie Park Nature Center aims to promote appreciation and education of wildlife conservation in Lawrence. The nature center offers unique hands-on conservation education for local schools, scouts and other groups, as well as outdoor activities and fun for the whole family.

The park has been open since 1999 and has flourished as a strong contributor to the Lawrence community. The area includes wetlands, woodlands and prairie habitats as well as the 5-acre Mary’s Lake. Families from all over come to see the beautiful outdoors and wildlife at Prairie Park Nature Center.

Lawrence Busker Festival

The Lawrence Busker Festival gathers local street performers for a weekend of shows and entertainment. Advertising itself as “family fun with some of the most talented freaks, geeks, artists and musicians around,†the Lawrence Busker Festival is a truly unique experience sure to entertain anyone. The festival reflects Lawrence’s eclectic and eccentric culture, showing off its finest local talent as well as international performers every summer. People from all over the globe come to be entertained and to entertain at the Lawrence Busker Festival.

Spencer Museum of Art

The Spencer Museum of Art was founded in 1917 when a Kansas City art collector, Sallie Casey Thayer, gave her collection to the University of Kansas to form a museum “to encourage the study of fine arts in the Middle West.†In the 1960s, the museum earned its name from Helen Foresman Spencer after she funded the construction of the larger museum that could house the rapidly growing collections.

In 2007, the museum expanded again with the addition of the University of Kansas Museum of Anthropology. The Spencer Museum of Art is an ever-growing museum dedicated to local artists and art education. 

Laugh Out Loud Family Zone

The Laugh Out Loud Family Zone (LOL) aims to create a fun space for Lawrence kids of all ages to expand their physical and imaginative play while also catering to adults. LOL offers a variety of jumping, climbing, playing, dancing, building and creative play activities.
