Safety & Walkability

Most of the neighborhood is walkable, with sidewalks on both sides of the street, and some residents can easily walk to local stores and restaurants. Three bike lanes run through Brier Creek on Little Brier Creek Lane, Arnold Palmer Drive, and Arco Corporate Drive, connecting residents with major roads and the commercial corridor.

The occasional vehicle break-ins do occur, as is common in higher-density areas, but more serious crime is rare.

Natural & Built Environment

Most of Brier Creek was developed over two decades ago, so landscaping features mature trees and lush residential plants along waterways. The shopping areas are intentionally designed to slow traffic and create a pleasant experience for pedestrians, with green medians, green curb extensions, and brick-lined, safety-paint-marked crosswalks.

There are no greenways in the neighborhood, but residents have quick access to the over 5,400-acre Umstead State Park. Within the park, there are over 34 miles of hiking trails, fishing and boating access, campgrounds and more.

Design & Architecture

Brier Creek is a Cluster Unit Development, which means it has a site-planned, cohesive appearance, with most homes designed with Craftsman, Colonial inspired, and transitional architectural influences. There are single-family homes along with a number of townhomes, condominiums, and apartment communities, creating a diverse housing mix while maintaining a consistent suburban character.

The unifying factor is the materials and colors of residences, with community-wide brick and stone accents and coordinated trim and paint colors. Architecture varies by location, with homes overlooking the golf course featuring more detailed designs, such as matching masonry elements.
