Living in the Lehigh Valley is easy with plentiful recreation.

By Phil Newman on October 14, 2015

Getting outside is easy and fun in the Lehigh Valley. The famed Appalachian Trail bisects the region, featuring hikes to such vantage points The Pinnacle in Hamburg, Bake Oven Knob in Germansville and Lehigh Gap in Washington Township. Mountain bikers flock to Lehigh Gorge Trail, especially for the 25-mile downhill day trip. Anglers find teeming trout waters in the Jordan and Little Lehigh creeks, along with the Saucon Creek in south Bethlehem and Hellertown. Among many golf options, Iron Lakes in Allentown is renowned for two par-4 holes, including one of the region’s favorite holes (No. 8) and one of its toughest (No. 15). In the winter, snowy fun awaits at Bear Creek Mountain Resort in Macungie; it’s also a go-to summer resort.

Tourism Boom

Spurred by new developments across Lehigh Valley’s downtowns, jobs in the tourism and hospitality sector rose by 8 percent (2,600 jobs) between December 2013 and December 2014.
