“The community itself is very active,” says Taylor Duckett, a fitness and nutrition coach who’s lived in the city for five years. “Young and old, I see people out on the trail with their dogs or kids or just by themselves – the city just has such a good balance of indoor and outdoor activities.”
Vibrant Downtown
Experience one of America’s consistently recognized best downtowns. In the past ten years, Greenville’s downtown has turned into a charming, walkable destination with a palpable welcoming energy on every corner.
“Downtown has undergone a complete 180,” says Nelson Weston, a lifestyle show host who grew up in the city. “The growth has kicked into overdrive, and now there are so many businesses and restaurants that have revitalized it.”
Plus, there’s always something happening downtown, from festivals to farmers markets to free live music.
Foodie Central
The city is definitely an up-and-comer in the national foodie scene. Local chefs have received James Beard Award nominations, and multiple restaurants have been recognized by the prestigious Michelin Guide: American South: One Michelin Star Scoundrel and Michelin-recommended Soby’s, The Anchorage, Jianna and Topsoil Restaurant. Downtown alone is home to over 200 restaurants, offering a diverse, delicious selection.
“Walking downtown around dinnertime, you really can’t go wrong with anywhere you stop in,” Duckett says. “The restaurants are just amazing.”
From elevated Southern staples to Italian, French and Asian cuisine, there’s something for every palate. And if you need to wash it all down with a cocktail or brew, there are plenty of places for that, too.
Amazing Weather
Greenville gets a full four seasons, but none of them are extreme by any stretch. The winters are mild, with infrequent snow, while the summer is warm but not exceedingly hot. And spring and fall? Practically idyllic, especially when the leaves start changing. The climate is the unsung hero when it comes to the many festivals that happen throughout the year, making the experiences so much more pleasant.
New Developments
As more people flock to Greenville, the city continues to grow and add new developments – both residential and commercial – to accommodate growing demand. Whether that’s transforming the West Village by breathing new life into old mills or investing in more mixed-use developments, there’s always something on the horizon.
