An Unexpected Adventure in Greater Chattanooga
Meet the owners of Adventure Sports Innovation in Chattanooga.
After decades of working in New York’s financial sector, Carolina and Patrick Molloy embarked on a drastically different path when, in 2017, they moved to Chattanooga and launched Adventure Sports Innovation.
The storefront is in downtown Chattanooga’s Northshore neighborhood, located across from the Tennessee River.
From their office window, the owners have a direct view of all the natural wonders that make their business possible, from the mountains to the waterways.
What prompted your switch in careers and the move to Chattanooga?
Patrick Molloy: We wanted to change our lifestyle and become entrepreneurs. We met in Miami, then moved to New York. We went from very hot to very cold and wanted something in between. Chattanooga is a natural place for this business because it has a built-in infrastructure for outdoor adventures and a great community of people who like to be outdoors.
Carolina Molloy: Chattanooga is known not only for its outdoor adventure but also for its innovation. We got a lot of support from the entrepreneurial community when we arrived here.
What is Adventure Sports Innovation?
Patrick Molloy: We offer new inventions for outdoor adventures. Our tagline is “Explore Differently.” People invent these cool new gadgets, but the only way to try them was to purchase them online, sight unseen. So we decided to build sort of a test center where people can try out these inventions.
What are some examples?
Patrick Molloy: We have vehicle tours with electric scooters and electric bikes. We also rent the equipment, so people can go on a self-guided adventure.
Carolina Molloy: The Swincar (a four-wheel, off-road electric vehicle) is a big favorite. An ATV is a way you can get close to nature without hiking, but the typical ATV is noisy and polluting. We offer an electric ATV that can go almost anywhere. We think there is a lot of potential growth in this area.
