Overall Vibe & Lifestyle

Residents enjoy a wide array of activities, from shopping at local boutiques and the annual Christmas Market at Cambridge Square to jogging through one of the neatly laid-out subdivisions. Life in Collegedale is calm and relaxed, with large homes on dead-end streets and new and carefully designed commercial zones.

There are still plenty of activities and opportunities for recreation, with involved neighbors and locals who have remained in the neighborhood for decades.

Safety & Walkability

Areas around Southern Adventist University and Cambridge Square are highly walkable, with access to grocery, dining, amenities, and housing all within walking distance via maintained sidewalks. The surrounding thoroughfares and residential areas are designed primarily for pedestrian recreation, such as jogging and dog walking, with access to walkways like the 3-mile Wolftever Creek Greenway

Collegedale is extremely safe, with a crime rate that’s far below the Chattanooga average, and many residents feel confident moving around at night and allowing children to walk to school.

Natural & Built Environment

Most roads are built on a suburban grid system, with little through traffic, plenty of mature trees and green spaces, and well-maintained sidewalks. Larger thoroughfares like University Drive and Ooltewah Ringgold Road are not walkable and are primarily used for commuters and those running daily errands.

Residents enjoy driving to builT green spaces such as Little Debbie Park, with its kid-friendly playgrounds and a zip line; Veterans Park, filled with decommissioned equipment and walking trails; and Enterprise South Nature Park, with its 40+ miles of trails for mountain biking, dog walking, jogging, and horseback riding.

Design & Architecture

Collegedale blends newer suburban construction with pockets of older, more traditional Tennessee housing. Most homes are newly built or under active development, with modern traditional styling, like brick, stone, and fiber-cement exteriors, dominating newer subdivisions. Older sections, particularly near Ooltewah Center and in long-established neighborhoods, feature Colonial Revival, ranch, and split-level homes from the mid-20th century, on slightly larger lots and with greater design variation.

Across both old and new, interiors lean toward functionality and family-oriented design. New builds emphasize open-concept kitchens, large primary suites, and flexible bonus spaces, while older homes often include more segmented floor plans with opportunities for renovation.
