One hundred years ago, the leaders of the Cleveland/Bradley Chamber of Commerce recognized the need for a hotel to support visitors and business growth, so they decided to raise the funds to realize that bold vision. A century later, that hotel – still the tallest building in downtown Cleveland, TN – is being transformed into a historic City Hall and public meeting space that will serve as the gateway to a revitalized downtown.
The Partnerships in Industry and Education Center
This commitment to preserving the past while evolving and reinventing for the future defines the Tennessee community. The Partnerships in Industry and Education Center, locally known as the PIE Center, is a prime example, representing a strategic investment in workforce readiness.
“It’s a direct result of listening to our existing industries and understanding the skills needed to adapt to emerging technology,” says Doug Berry, the Chamber’s vice president of economic development. “By connecting education and industry, we’re working to ensure that our next generation is not just ready for the future but leading the way.”
A 271,000-square-foot former textile mill, the PIE Center now serves as a business and learning environment, where county schools collaborate directly with manufacturers to develop programs that help local businesses build the workforce they need.
“It’s a one-of-a-kind Career and Technical Education Center,” says Berry. “It’s a functioning school with 28 programs of study, wrap-around supportive services from local nonprofits, and it houses private businesses that provide students with work opportunities and career experience.”

“For a century, the Chamber has been part of this community, working to build economic capacity and quality of life,” Berry says. “We’re continually asking what will make this place more attractive to individuals, families and businesses. It’s not just about growth – it’s about meaningful, diverse growth.”
