With robust health-care options that include Williamson Medical Center, Vanderbilt Health, Saint Thomas Health and Tri-Star Health systems, the county offers residents and businesses access to state-of-the-art medical services without having to travel far from home.

For nearly 60 years, Franklin-based Williamson Medical Center has served the community. During that time the hospital has grown both in size and services offered to now include a fully accredited Chest Pain and Cardiology Center, the Bone and Joint Institute of Tennessee, an accredited Sleep Center, as well as a Breast Health Center, which has been ranked as one of the top breast centers in the country.

Patient-Centric Partnerships

The medical center partners with Nashville-based Vanderbilt Health to operate the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital Vanderbilt at Williamson Medical Center, a dedicated pediatric inpatient hospital with an emergency department. The children’s hospital, which opened in 2015, is just one of several joint ventures between the two health systems. Since 2013, Vanderbilt Health and Williamson Medical Center have joined forces to operate walk-in clinics in Franklin, Brentwood, Cool Springs and Spring Hill. In 2018, the organizations announced plans to open a clinic is Nolensville, one of the county’s fastest-growing communities.

“We are pleased to bring walk-in clinic services to Nolensville and its surrounding communities. The addition of a new walk-in location in one of Williamson County’s fastest-growing areas allows us to increase access and convenience for the patients we serve in a cost-effective setting,†said C. Wright Pinson, deputy CEO and chief health system officer for Vanderbilt Health, in a press release.

Tech Talent Is Thriving in Williamson County

Williamson Medical Center also partners with Vanderbilt Health to operate Vanderbilt Heart at Williamson Medical Center, which, along with Saint Thomas Heart-Franklin, the award-winning cardiac division of Nashville-based Saint Thomas Health, offers residents access to top-rated cardiology services.

Laser-Focused Treatment

One of the biggest developments in the health-care landscape recently is the opening of Provision CARES Proton Therapy Center, which means residents and people throughout the region can come here for proton therapy, an advanced form of radiation that precisely targets tumors while sparing healthy tissue and organs. The center opened in summer of 2018, making one of the most advanced cancer treatments available to people around the region. Provision is building a comprehensive cancer campus that will offer provider services, imaging, drug discovery, clinical trials and other cancer treatment options in addition to proton therapy. The Franklin location and proximity to other area health-care services is designed to reduce stress on patients so they can access all resources needed to win their battle against cancer, says Tara L. Mullaney, vice president of business development for Provision CARES Proton Therapy Nashville.

“We will be the resource in the area for overall cancer care by partnering with physicians and health-care systems, as well as the many cancer care resource groups available in the greater area to connect them all together. Housed right in our center is Gilda’s Club Middle Tennessee, offering psycho-social support, and Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation, which raises funds for cancer research,†Mullaney says. “The facility will draw to it the best and brightest minds in the medical field to further advance the science of radiation, chemotherapy and surgical treatments, and the equipment used here is the first ever made in the United States. Having this center right here in Franklin will mean another option in cancer care for those facing cancer, offering a second opinion when traditional forms of cancer treatment are prescribed.”

Healthy Community, Healthy Economy

Katie Schlacter, senior director of communications and content strategy for the Nashville Health Care Council, says companies such as Provision are drawn to Williamson County because of the region’s reputation as a hub for high-quality health care.

“The Nashville area has a really rich history as an entrepreneurial and innovative health-care cluster. It’s also a really diverse area of health-care expertise, and people want to be a part of that. They also want to be a part of a really smart business community, and I think that is a huge draw,†Schlacter says. “Also, the attitude of our health-care community is very open and very collaborative. And that’s something you don’t find in other places.”

Williamson County’s health-care network also translates into a healthy economy. Approximately 50 health-care companies specializing in everything from health IT to disease management call Williamson County home.

“Of course having this many health-care providers in one community means residents are getting cutting-edge care, but beyond that, they are also getting access to jobs. Health care is the number one employer in the Nashville area, and it’s also the fastest growing employer in the area, with a $40 billion local economic impact, annually,†Schlacter says.

The Best in Kidney Care

Also providing a positive medical difference in Williamson County is DaVita, a Fortune 500 company and a leading provider of kidney dialysis services in the U.S., serving nearly 200,000 patients annually. At its Brentwood location in the Maryland Farms complex, the company occupies two office buildings and has 700 employees, and DaVita has been recognized several years in a row as one of the Top 25 Places to Work in Middle Tennessee by The Tennessean.

“Brentwood enjoys a thriving business community, five-year job growth of nearly 30 percent, high average household income, relatively low cost of living, excellent schools and beautiful natural geography,†says T. Jay Warner, DaVita assistant general counsel-operations. “All of these characteristics make Brentwood one of the most desired cities in the country for businesses and individuals alike.â€

Williamson County: Where Everyone Is Welcome

Louis Efron, DaVita vice president of teammate experience, says the company’s Williamson County offices continue to grow and expand, particularly in the areas of information technology, revenue operations, legal, finance, licensure & certification, and integrated care.

“As a result, we are constantly hiring,†he says. “In fact, for the past 11 years, DaVita has been listed as one of Fortune magazine’s ‘World’s Most Admired Companies,’ and we enthusiastically bring our trilogy of care involving caring for our patients, caring for each other and caring for our world to Williamson County and all of our communities.â€
