A growing Nashville area suburb, Gallatin, TN offers families many amenities, including annual events like the Sumner County Fair, Gallatin Fall Festival and a Christmas Parade. Finding things to do in Gallatin is never difficult no matter what time of the year it is. Here’s a list of some of the best activities in and around Gallatin.

Breathe Fresh Air

Once a prime hunting ground for the Cherokee, Chickamauga and Creek Native American tribes, Bledsoe Creek State Park features 57 campsites, six miles of scenic hiking trails, and a new visitor’s center in the planning phase. Also available to residents and park tourists is Old Hickory Lake, with fishing opportunities and two boat launch ramps.

Say Aaahh

The relaxation techniques of the ancient Greeks and Romans are the inspiration behind Hair & Body Day Spa and Salon, a refresh-and-renew destination in for both women and men. Hair & Body opened in 2007 and offers services like therapeutic massage, hydrotherapy, exfoliation and skin care treatments.

Try Awedaddy’s

Either drive or boat to Gallatin Marina and enjoy fresh seafood dishes at Awedaddy’s Bar & Grill. The popular restaurant is located on a small inlet of Old Hickory Lake and offers beautiful scenery and a variety of menu choices. Awedaddy’s is well known for its Sunday brunch with a personalized Bloody Mary bar.

Hit ‘Em Long and Straight

Welcoming more than 40,000 golfers each year is Long Hollow Golf Course, an 18-hole public venue that plays 6,100 yards with a par of 70. Group and private lessons are available, and a Long Hollow Clubhouse offers several food and beverage options.

Go Back to the 1700s

Serving as the first Sumner County Courthouse from 1787-1790, Douglass-Clark House is restored as a visitors and interpretive center for Gallatin and Sumner County. The stately home on Long Hollow Pike also has Civil War significance because four Clark brothers lived there before enlisting and fighting in the Confederate army.

Aw Shuckles

Gather the kids and treat them to Shuckles Corn Maze & Pumpkin Patch, a fall destination with attractions like zip lines, corn maze, 40-foot slide, playground, petting zoo and a pick-your-own pumpkin patch. Shuckles is located at Fiddle Dee Farms and open from late September to early November.

See the Big Picture

The South’s oldest silent movie theater in its original location is Palace Theater, which has been restored and now shows current movies every Friday and Saturday night. The building, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is also available for lectures, weddings, concerts and birthday parties.

Bring Your Appetite

More than 700 people enjoy the outdoors and many local food offerings at an annual Taste of Gallatin, which occurs every June at Triple Creek Park Pavilion. In attendance are 35-40 food representatives from restaurants, caterers and supermarkets who showcase their culinary wares for attendees to sample.
