Several educational summer camps are available to students in Rutherford County.
Education is a year-round endeavor in Rutherford County. The county hosts a wealth of summer camps for elementary, middle and high school students to enable them to enrich their education and learn about promising careers. A few popular camps include:
Middle Tennessee State University offers a robotics camp and CSI: MTSU, a forensic science youth camp. The robotics camp teaches middle and high school students how to construct and program Lego NXT robots to complete tasks like navigating mazes and arranging soda cans in specific configurations. The Forensic Institute for Research & Education (FIRE) sponsors the CSI camp, which includes several crime detection seminars. The goal of both camps is to provide students with real-life reasons to tackle higher-level math and science courses.
Summer Business Camp
The Business Education Partnership (BEP) Foundation and State Farm Insurance team up to present an annual two-week Summer Business Camp that introduces middle school students to the basics of the business world. Students form business teams, write a business plan, develop a marketing strategy and create a product or entrepreneurial idea.
Camp Discovery Center
Discovery Center at Murfree Spring schedules a variety of fun activities, games, crafts and other hands-on projects throughout the year that explore the arts, science, engineering and nature. Its summer activities include nature adventure camps and engineering for kids camps.
Center Stage Academy
The Center for the Arts presents an annual Center Stage Academy summer camp each summer for children in preschool through grade 12 who are interested in learning about theater. Participants learn the basics of acting, sets, lighting, producing, choreography and music.
