Methodist Medical Center

Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge is one of the first hospitals in East Tennessee to offer cutting-edge treatments and technologies that benefit people who have life-threatening aneurysms; severely damaged knee, hip and shoulder joints; sudden heart failure; and non-healing wounds.

The medical center is among the first hospitals in the nation to open comprehensive chest and breast clinics, which have reduced the waiting time between suspicion of cancer and beginning of treatment from weeks or months to days. It is also the first hospital in the area to have implemented a hypothermia protocol that lowers a patient’s body temperature after cardiac arrest to reduce the risk of brain damage.

Now, the medical center is leading the way with a new screening tool for those at high risk for lung cancer. Studies have shown that early detection through yearly Low Dose CT lung screenings can lower the risk of death from lung cancer by 20 percent among people who are at high risk. Without LDCT screening, lung cancer is usually not found until a person develops symptoms.

Methodist also has one of this region’s most comprehensive health education programs for patients, their families, and the community at large, offering programs for smoking cessation, support groups, physician-led lectures and activities tailored for young families.

Ridgeview Behavioral Health Services

Established in 1957 as the Mental Health Center of Anderson and Roane Counties Inc., Ridgeview Behavioral Health Services was one of the first mental health facilities in Tennessee. Today, Ridgeview serves both children and adults through inpatient and outpatient programs. The 16-bed inpatient program serves adults age 18 and older and is staffed by an interdisciplinary team of psychiatric health professionals, social workers, activity therapists and psychiatric technicians. The outpatient program treats several mental health issues, including substance abuse. Especially impressive is Ridgeview’s menu of services for children and adolescents. In addition to traditional outpatient clinical services for children and their families, Ridgeview participates in the Project B.A.S.I.C. program funded by the Department of Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities, which offers early intervention and mental health education in elementary schools. Ridgeview also provides licensed counselors and certified prevention specialists for the Amazing Discovery in-school program, which targets kids at risk of developing substance abuse.

The Eye Centers also perform laser vision correction surgery and blepharoplasty to correct dark circles and puffiness under the eyes.
