Roseville CA

UPDATE: Check out our new 2023 Best Cities to Live in the U.S. list.

#6. Roseville, CA

If the idea of living out your golden years in the Golden State appeals to you, consider the northern California city of Roseville.

This mid-sized city is 20 miles northeast of Sacramento, which means you’ll be able to fly in and out of Sacramento International Airport with ease — this is an important factor to consider if you plan to do a lot of traveling in retirement.

Some 137,000 people already call Roseville home and get to enjoy its mild weather, vast shopping options and outdoor recreation opportunities (Roseville is home to 49 parks and more than 30 miles of bike and walking trails!). Roseville also has its own thriving arts scene, complete with a monthly art walk, symphony performances, rotating exhibits and tons of hands-on classes at Blue Line Arts.

In addition to the Placergrown Farmers’ Markets, which are held at various locations throughout Placer County several days of the week, you’ll also want to check out Denio’s Farmers Market and Swap Meet, a family-owned market with everything from produce to antiques that’s been around since 1947. You’ll find plenty of public and private golf options here, too, including Timber Creek Golf Course and Morgan Creek Golf Club.
