A vibrant city in the Texas heartland just up the highway from Dallas, Plano continues to shine as a go-to destination for residents and visitors alike.

Landing at No. 65 among our annual list of Top 100 Best Places to Live, Plano scored especially high in several ranking categories. That strong sense of civic pride and engagement is a core quality that runs deep in Plano for a variety of reasons, says Mayor Harry LaRosiliere.

“Our residents can be proud that they live in a city that has a community where they enjoy a fantastic quality of life, excellent schools and an abundance of educational, recreational and cultural amenities,†LaRosiliere says.

Something for Everyone

Long known as a haven for successful companies to base their operations – the city’s 25-plus major headquarters include Dr. Pepper, Cinemark Theatres, Frito-Lay, and Pizza Hut – a big part of why so many companies call Plano home is the city’s abundance of resident-friendly features that help to attract top talent to the area.

Those features run the gamut from life-enhancing services such as eclectic dining choices and a bevy of recreational opportunities (including more than 3,800 acres of open space and parklands) to essential draws like top-tier education and housing possibilities.

“Plano has great neighborhoods throughout our city, and our residents have a plethora of living options to suit their individual lifestyle needs,†LaRosiliere says.

Schools, Supper and Services

On the education front, the city is renowned as one of Texas‘ hottest centers of academic achievers. “The Plano Independent School District has a distinct and long history of success through their commitment to developing every child to be equipped with the tools they need to succeed as adults,†LaRosiliere says.

In addition, Collin County’s Frisco Independent School District, McKinney Independent School District and Allen Independent School District provide excellent education for many of Plano’s families.

When it comes to all-important amenities, the mayor easily reels off a range of Plano’s pluses. “Our citizens are provided a high quality of life in so many ways,†he says, “including 700-plus restaurants with ranges to satisfy any palate, 84 park sites within 10 minutes of most any neighborhood, five full-service recreation centers, four full-service libraries and over 150 baseball fields and tennis courts combined.”

Dallas and its surrounding communities are well known for access to excellent health care, and Plano is no exception. The city’s residents have access to an astounding 81 acute-care hospitals within 60 miles, along with a full array of related services such as clinics, physician offices and outpatient-surgery centers.

In light of these and other factors, it’s no wonder, then, that Plano is active, busy and bustling – in the best ways possible. “Our citizens never run out of things to do,†LaRosiliere says.
