The University of Texas Health North Campus in Tyler is one of two Texas hospitals to be named a top teaching hospital by The Leapfrog Group for 2021.

More than 2,200 hospitals throughout the U.S. were considered for the top award, with a total of 105 selected. Medical City Denton was the other top Texas hospital named along with UT Health North Campus Tyler.

The Leapfrog teaching distinction is among the most competitive awards a U.S. hospital can receive, with a hospital’s culture, safety and quality being the main factors in the grading criteria. UT Health North Campus and the other national winners were cited because of their dedication to putting patients first and providing excellent health care, especially during the strain of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Opened about 75 years ago as a barracks hospital, UT Health North Campus houses 3,100 employees and provides a range of services for patients throughout Northeast Texas. One of its main missions is to train the next generation of doctors, with a major goal to alleviate physician shortages in rural counties of Northeast Texas.

UT Health Tyler also has a network of clinics throughout the region and offers services like cancer treatment and heart care along with a highly regarded rehabilitation and fitness network.

The North Campus is also known for its scenic beauty. Studies show that inpatients with rooms that offer a view of nature tend to recover faster, and with 600 sprawling acres in Northeast Texas, UT Health North Campus Tyler offers each patient a room with a view and an opportunity to feel better.
