As a trusted leader in the light pole industry, Hapco has been an integral part of Washington County’s business community for 60-plus years.

With multiple plant expansions, its state-of-the-art facility in Abingdon and skilled workforce continue to vigorously pursue their commitment to the highest quality products in the industry.

In addition to standing the test of time, the company prides itself on employee longevity, its history within the community and team members who value its family atmosphere.

Tim Grubb, who joined Hapco in 1986 as an hourly employee, is a great example. After 30 years on the manufacturing floor, mastering just about every area of pole manufacturing, he moved into the product engineering group as a CAD design tech and continued to thrive.

He received the Manufacturing Employee of the Year Award from the Southwest Virginia Alliance for Manufacturing, Inc., in 2021.

“My success is due to the support and help from the entire Hapco team,” Grubb says. “I’m privileged to have been a part of this team for the past 35 years.”

Grubb’s story isn’t an uncommon one. Many Hapco employees have been with the company for decades, embracing the company’s motto: Our contribution in the world … we create a lifetime of safety, opportunity and pride.”

Hapco continues to pursue its commitment to high-quality products.

“I often talk about history in the making when it comes to our retirees,” says Lisa Jones, director  of HR and safety. “We have employees who recently retired with 43, 55 and 56 years of service and dedication to Hapco.

“When we interview potential new hires, it’s quite common for them to say they know about our longtime employees and that’s why they want to work here,” Jones adds.

To help inform future generations about employment opportunities with Hapco, the company regularly attends job fairs and visits tech schools, colleges and universities.

“We hear all sorts of positive stories about how friends or family have worked at Hapco,” Jones says about interviews with potential employees.

“What a great way to continue the Hapco story by providing them the opportunity to pursue their own career in manufacturing.”
