Johnston Memorial continues to add services to its medical lineup.
Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon is a not-for-profit, 116-bed modern medical facility dedicated to bringing quality health care to the residents of Washington County and beyond. It is the first “green” hospital in Southwest Virginia certified by LEED and Energy Star, and JMH is a member of Mountain States Health Alliance.
At its core, Johnston Memorial is a community hospital built upon a foundation of providing quality care to Southwest Virginia residents. JMH combines modern medical treatment with a long-standing tradition of service to the region that dates back to its founding by physician George Ben Johnston in 1905.
“Part of JMH’s strategic vision is a focus on improving the health and quality of life of area residents,” says Sean McMurray, the hospital’s CEO. “As health care has grown and evolved over the years, we have seen the necessity for expanded services in order to meet the needs of our community.”
These services include a 24-hour interventional cardiac cath lab. As the only one in Southwest Virginia, it can make a life-or-death difference to someone experiencing a heart attack. Additionally, a fully-staffed critical care unit allows families to be with their loved ones in a facility that is close to home.
The hospital also offers medical services such as a family birth center with a full-time pediatric hospitalist team, women’s services, oncology services, a full array of surgical services and an on-site pharmacy. Also located on the hospital campus is a Regional Cancer Center, which provides comprehensive cancer treatment that includes medical and radiation oncology, diagnostic radiology and laboratory services.
Johnston Memorial’s off-site services include an ambulatory surgery center, women’s imaging, rehabilitation (physical, occupational and speech therapy), diabetes and endocrinology, and sleep medicine.
“As we look to the future, we are committed to continuing to stay the course of providing high-quality medical care to our community,” McMurray says. “We look forward to serving this area for many years to come.”
