Walkable neighborhoods, fun activities and excellent schools are just a few reasons why the Village of Deforest is so popular.

The Village of DeForest, WI is having a hard time remaining a “hidden” gem. With the community popping up in recent national publications, families and businesses alike are starting to take notice.

“We’re one of the fastest growing communities in the state,” says Alex Allon, community development director, “and just 20 minutes from the Wisconsin state capital of Madison – voted best place to live in America in 2022.”

DeForest is home to world-renowned businesses, including five global headquarters.

“Our business community is supported by residents who want to live, work and raise a family here,” Allons says. “There’s an influx of young families who are choosing to start their lives around the opportunities in DeForest.”

Recent rankings have pegged DeForest as one of the top 10 areas for first-time homebuyers and one of the top 15 best suburbs in America. Community ambassador Stacey Harmon says a strong local school system contributes to the good life in DeForest.“We have both brand-new and newly renovated schools throughout the district,” she says. Deforest, situated at the headwaters of the Yahara River, also offers ample opportunities for outdoor fun, including more than 18miles of trail system running right through town.

“All of our trails are maintained year round,” Harmon notes. “People can get out after work and get their kids outdoors and active.”

Downtown, Fireman’s Park is a gathering place for residents and visitors alike. Colorful dragons – designed by local artists and hosted by local businesses – dot the landscape, part of a public arts project that gives a nod to the area’s Norwegian heritage.

“We are tapping into the residents and community we have right here and giving them the chance to showcase their skills and talents,” Harmon says.

Allon echoes that sentiment. “DeForest is special – we have access to all the amenities, a vibrant commercial sector, and still keep that small-town, community feel.”
